About a week and a half ago I posted about my new Search and Destroy mission for 2010.
I am slowly going through my house, room by room and cleaning EVERYTHING. In doing so, I am trying to catch up on some maintenance things that I always seem to forget.
Basic maintenance is a must for frugality. Items that are properly maintained last longer and run more efficiently; this of course translates into a savings from reduced running costs as well as fewer repairs or replacement costs.
Since I really don’t want to have to do a major search and destroy every 6 months or even annually, I began to think that maybe I should either add them to my household routine binder by integrating them in my household cleaning lists, or maybe create a calendar. Up to now, they have been things I do when I think about it.
For now, I am going to add them to a calendar on my page.
Before I enter anything, I took about half an hour to put together some emergency information for my binder:
- location of the heating fuel main shutoff
- location of the main electrical shutoff (service panel, a.k.a fuse/breaker box):
- location of the main water shutoff
- location of the fire extinguishers
- location of the main drain line clean out
When these items come up in our schedule, I will give a bit more detailed information on them.
